Barriston Law announces the retirement of Tom Dart, effective December 31, 2024.
Tom’s distinguished legal career began in 1976 and primarily focused on family law and alternative dispute resolution. He is a Certified Specialist in Mediation (FDR Med) and Arbitration (FDR Arb) and has appeared at all levels of Ontario courts, including the Ontario Court of Appeal.
Throughout his career, Tom has been a dedicated mediator and arbitrator. He has assisted numerous clients in resolving family law disputes through non-adversarial approaches and played a key role in the founding of Resolv’d Mediation, Arbitration and Workplace Investigations, where he will continue to act as a mediator and arbitrator. His commitment to the legal profession is further reflected in his mentoring and leadership roles, including as a founding member of the Family Dispute Resolution Institute of Ontario, where he has made significant contributions to family law reform and education. Tom received the Ontario Bar Association Award of Excellence in Family Law in 2014. He was named Lawyer of the Year for 2014 and again in 2021 by Best Lawyers.
